At Humane Society Silicon Valley, volunteers are critical to fulfilling our mission of saving and enhancing lives. We recruit cyclically, we use the interest form so that we can find the right individuals to fill each role. Please sign up for our interest list for the roles that interest you and we’ll reach out in the next recruitment cycle. For Adoptions and Animal Care roles we prioritize reaching out to those submissions made within the last 3 months.
What are the basic requirements to volunteer?
- Volunteers in regular on-site roles must be at least 18 years old. If you are under 18 and interested in volunteering, please visit our student volunteer opportunities page.
- Most of our volunteer roles ask for a weekly or bi-weekly commitment for a six-month period.

ADOPTION ROLES
Want to make a make a difference and help animals find the loving homes they deserve? If you’re passionate about animal welfare and eager to help, we need you! Your passion and your ability to connect with potential adopters will be the bridge between loving families and the animals who need them most. Cat and Dog Matchmakers play a crucial role, creating meaningful connections between prospective adopters and HSSV’s animals, ultimately saving lives and bringing joy to families. Hosts are the first point of contact for visitors at our animal shelter, creating a welcoming environment for potential adopters, and community members.

They support our fundraising team by helping us prepare spaces for events. Shelter-support roles include sorting donations and preparing pet food for delivery, and delivering food to home-bound clients for our Pet Pantry Program. Carla Berti
Not only does Carla spend her free time fostering cats and kittens, she’s also a volunteer in our ringworm department. Carla spends most of her time treating cats and kittens with ringworm, socializing them, and training new volunteers. She even makes each cat feel special by crocheting them a bed to go home with when it’s time for adoption!
