Hi,
We stopped by the Petco in Sunnyvale yesterday to meet a cat (I think his name was Dmitri), but there was a note that all of the pet are not at HSSV. We will be happy to foster him or any other cat if there is a need (I submitted a form too).
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Best,

Do you need foster homes for pets that are to be displaced? Since we”re home for the next few months (I’m a teacher) we could care for pets and would enjoy the company.

Hi! I would love to foster a kitten during this time! I live alone and am pretty lonely during this time. I have grown up with kittens and cats my entire life and would love to foster a kitten. Let me know if any are available!

Would you consider adding “sponsor a pet guardian” as an alternative to people surrendering their pets for financial reasons during the Covid 19 outbreak? I know people who would be interested in helping pet guardians financially so that pets can stay with their families.
I have lost my lease, have reduced income and new landlord won’t allow pets.
Sadly, we are forced to surrender our 2 dogs! 4 year old catahoula mix and 5 year old border collie mix. Both spayed females, house and kennel trained. Can someone help by fostering them until the humane society can accept them?
Hi Alejandro, we are so sorry to hear about your situation. If you need help with more options, please reach out to us at 408-262-2133 x110.

Is the pet pantry still open? I usually go towards the end of the month to pick up food for my feral colony. I can’t afford to buy them food, but can’t let them go hungry either.

I submitted my name to foster through the Humane Society if they’re willing to help match folks up for you. I had 2 border collie mixes myself so I know the high energy well.
Hi there,
We are Humane Society Silicon Valley, so if you submitted your info through this form: http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/5508265/New-Foster-Interest, that’s us. 🙂
We are currently in the process of reviewing the more than 1,000 submissions we received and getting back to people. This process may take us some time, so thank you for your patience and support!

Hello!
I would really love to foster a dog/puppy that gets along with small dogs (I currently have two of my own). I filled out the survey to be put on the foster interest list, but I was wondering if I had to attend the Canine Foster Onboarding Event, as well.
Thank you!
Hi there,
We are not currently holding onboarding sessions, so filling out the form is enough. We have received over 1,000 submissions to our foster interest list this week, so it will take us some time to process and respond to everyone. Thanks for your patience and support!
Hello,
Is your cremation service open? Our dog passed away early this morning.
Hi Leslie,
We are so sorry to hear about your dog. Unfortunately our end-of-life services are temporarily suspended. I am so sorry that we’re unable to help at this time.
-Alexandra

Hi again,
Do you know where else I can go for pet cremation?
Sorry for your loss. Our beloved dog, Kibouunki, recently passed away before the Shelter in Place. Our vet referred us to Animal Memorial Service in Gilroy. We had a private memorial for him, and were able to say our goodbyes. We opted for water cremation and a customized earn.
Hi Alejandro, Have you found a new home or foster home for your two dogs? Let me know if you are still looking. Would love to help if we can. We have a dog and cat at home, but were looking into foster opportunities to help right now.
Hello,
I just wanted to check to see if you are still in need of clean towels and blankets, and if it is ok to drop them off at your location still?
Thank you!
Hi there, thanks so much for thinking of us! Towels and blankets can be dropped off in the bins outside our intake lobby (building to the far left) at our Milpitas Animal Community Center. Thank you!

We have been trying to reach out so we can foster a dog during the shut down. Is that possible?
Hi there! The link for our foster interest form is at the top of this post (and here: https://www.hssv.org/new-foster-questionnaire/). Please note that we have received over 2,000 submissions since the beginning of shelter in place, and it will take us time to process the submissions and get back to everyone. Thanks for your patience and support!

Hi, is there any way for us to adopt dogs still or is that completely suspended? For those of us working from home, this is the best time to bring home a pet and give them our undivided attention as they acclimate to their new home.
Hi there, our adoptions program is temporarily suspended. When that changes, we’ll provide updates on this page. Thanks!

I have a very ill dog who is 16.5 yrs old with chronic bronchitis and sadly needs to be put at rest. Are the euthanasia services open while the shelter in place mandate is on?
Hi Mary Jane, we are so so sorry to hear about your dog. Unfortunately our euthanasia services are temporarily suspended. It looks like Malley (comment below) has a suggestion for at-home euthanasia that you might be able to look into. Sorry we couldn’t be of more help!
-Alexandra
HSSV Staff
Hi Mary Jane, I’m so sorry to hear about your dog. We just used Lap of Love (https://www.lapoflove.com/Locations-California-Silicon-Valley) this past weekend for our girl. They are still doing at home euthanasia. There are also local vets still dong euthanasia if you don’t want to do it in your home.
Malley,
Thank you so much for the recommendation, I will look into it.
Hello, with the virtual adoption setup, do we get to physically meet the furball we are interested in adopting or does it all have to be done over a video chat? Thanks!
Hi Izzy,
Most of the process is done through video chat. We are allowing a brief, socially distant meet and greet at our Animal Community Center if you are adopting a dog, but in general our new procedures are intended to keep both staff and adopters safe during pick up. Please let me know if you have any follow-up questions!
-Alexandra
HSSV Staff
Hi Alexandra,
Thanks for your quick response. Could you please expand on “brief, socially distant meet and greet”? Does this mean, we will not be allowed to touch or pet the animal we are interested in adopting? My husband has not had pets before and I really wanted him to interact with the dog before we brought him/her home to make sure that the dog and my husband are comfortable with each other. Thanks!
Hi Izzy,
If the dog is an adult, we’ll let you into one of our outdoor dog pods and you’ll have a few minutes to interact with the dog. You will be allowed to pet the dog, etc. I hope that makes more sense!
-Alexandra
HSSV Staff
Thanks, Alexandra. What is the meet and greet protocol for puppies? Thanks!
We unfortunately do not currently have a safe area for puppy meet and greets, so puppies are handed off safely using a crate.

How long will it take for the foster forms to be processed? Its so hard to wait!
Hi Tiya,
We’re so sorry for the wait. We’re still trying to match up foster families and their preferences with our current needs and the needs of our rescue partners, and will be providing an update as soon as we can.
-Alexandra
HSSV Staff
Hi Alexandra,
We filled out the foster care form 2-3 weeks back. I understand that you received many applications and that it takes time to process it. Are you able to tell us how far are you in terms of processing the forms (by date)? My daughter can not wait, she is very eager to hear back (she can really use a companion animal right now, and we have extra time to care for the dog). Many Thanks!
Hi there,
We’re sorry you’ve been waiting so long. We’ve been matching new fosters with animals based on their preferences and whether they match our current needs, not going by date submitted. Sorry about that!

Our friends lost their dog today. Do you have any recommendations for support services during these unprecedented times? Especially for grieving?
Hi there,
We’re so sorry to hear about your friend’s dog. We do hold a pet loss support group the first Tuesday of every month, which was held virtually for the first time just a few weeks ago. For details on that group and upcoming meetings, please visit https://www.hssv.org/services/end-of-life-resources/#animallosssupport.

Hi Alexandra,
I wanted to create a fundraiser and donate all proceeds to Humane Society Silicon Valley’s COVID-19 relief. But I wanted to make sure the money raised would go directly to the local Silicon Valley’s COVID-19 relief. Please contact me so we could discuss any further steps that need to be taken. I would really appreciate it.
Thank you
Hi Rya,
That’s amazing, thank you so much! If you’re looking for an easy way to hold an online fundraiser, Facebook is a great place to start – there are no processing fees for Facebook fundraisers held on behalf of nonprofits, so we’ll receive the total amount. If you have any other questions or need further assistance, please reach out to our donor team! You can email them at donations@hssv.org.
Thank you again, we so appreciate your support, especially now.

Hi,
I was also wondering how I would make sure the money goes to COVID relief?
Thanks
Hi there, apologies for my delay in response!
We don’t have a specific COVID relief fund. Donations made right now will help us 1) offset the significant revenue we’ve lost as a result of COVID (donations, cancellation of our major annual fundraising event, program fees) and 2) adapt to the changing times and sustain our work. We’ve had to make a couple major shifts in our operations in response to COVID. One is that we’re taking in many more animals with medical issues, and another is that we’ve moved some of our programs (like our adoptions program) to virtual processes.
Your fundraiser will help us ensure that we can continue to care for the animals that need us most and make the necessary shifts in our processes that will allow us to continue that work.
Thank you so much!

Do you still accept physical donations? Such as pet food and linens?
We do! You can drop them off in the bins outside our Intake lobby (building to the far left). Thank you so much!

Hello, when do you expect to restart vaccinations for dogs? Thanks!
Hi Gary,
Thanks for reaching out! We don’t currently have a timeframe for reopening our vaccine clinic. When we have more updates, we’ll post them here. Thanks!
Hey! Earlier this morning we saw Peter the small crossbreed puppy (the golden one) and we are interested in adopting him! We understand that these are difficult times, and that most of your services are currently closed. But, (if you are willing to of course) we would love to work something out to give Peter a loving forever home! Thank you so much!
Hi Hailey,
Thanks for reaching out! Our dog adoption appointment form is currently paused while we work through our current list and schedule/hold appointments for those who have already signed up. We anticipate reopening the list in mid-June. Fore more information and updates, please visit hssv.org/adopt
We had a feral cat give birth to 4 kittens on our property during Covid….they are about 5 or 6 weeks old. Two have died and the mother has left. One has a severe eye infection and they obviously need to be spayed/neutered. Shots etc….can anyone help us? We love in Gilroy, in the Santa Clara county, we have a trap and are going to catch them. Please call me back to see where we could go for help!

Sandy,
For eye infection get terramycin on amazon and apply to eyes 3-4 times a day. You can try a vet that participate in the tnr program. Last time I paid was $25 they do spay and neuter and flea treatment too.
Sandy,
Try this link to check on participating vets

Hi, are you currently accepting appointments for spaying dogs?

Is there any place where cats can get fixed and get shots? We found a cat on the streets we want to take in, which we think may be female, and need to get her spayed and vaccinated ASAP as to not affect our other cats. Is there anywhere we can go??
Hi there, thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately our spay/neuter and vaccine clinics are still closed. We will provide an update here as soon as we are able to.

Regarding TNR – I’m very confused as to why veterinarians can remain open and do client contactless work, but HSSV and San Jose Animals Services cannot. And I’ve been informed by one vet clinic that the funding for the spay/neuter that they were doing in San Jose came to an end July 1st. Would be great if explanations and help/advice could be (more plainly) posted on your website, please. Or am I the only one having problem getting help for ferals?
Hello do you have time frame on when the spay/neuter clinic will be taking appointments again?
Hi there, unfortunately we don’t. As soon as we have an update, we’ll post it here.

We adopted a male kitten back in May & we were trying to schedule his neutering surgery since it wasn’t an option at the time. Any updates since I thought that was part of the adoption fee?
Hi there! Our team will reach out to you as soon as we have an available appointment. Thanks for your patience!
Do you know when the Spay/Neuter & Vaccine Clinics will be open again?
Hi there, unfortunately we don’t. As soon as we have an update, we’ll post it here.

Hi,
We were originally scheduled for neuter/spay appointment back in April. I was told humane society would open back up for these types of services in August. Is there a date when the medical center would be open this month? Appreciate all the staff for their service of the animals in your care.
Hi there,
We do not yet have a date for when our spay/neuter clinic will open. Sorry about that! As soon as we have an update, we will post it here.

Hi, I have been trying to book a spray appointment for my kitten. On the website it says to check back in August, but I don’t think they are open yet. Any updates on when I should check back? Thanks!
Hello, I was wondering if only the free spay/neuter service is available or if ALL your spay/neuter services are available? I tried calling but it said that the service has been suspended, however on your website it says it is available. I have a 5 month old puppy and I live in Gilroy, and don’t qualify for the free spay service.
Hi there – only our free spay/neuter program is available at this time. Sorry about that! When our other services reopen, we’ll post it here.

Hi,
Any idea when the TNR program will resume? What about kittens? There is a feral family with kittens near me (Sunnyvale) and maybe the kittens can be tamed rather than released. What are the options for them? They look healthy and adorable.
Hello, I want to know if you are taking appointment and/or wait list for the spay/neuter service? I know a lot of people has been asking. Just wanted to know if can provide more info at this time, and/or how the spay/neuter service will be like once it is resume?
HI. Is your TNR program up and running yet? I have some ferals that need to be fixed. Would you accept stray kittens?
I made an appointment on September 17th to get my kitten spayed this Wednesday, September 30th. I have not received any confirmation or information; can you confirm the surgery will still take place?
Hi there! Please email our medical center directly at medicalcenter@hssv.org. Thanks!

Hello, Any idea when the vaccination clinic will resume its services?
Thank you!
I am looking for Bordetella vaccination for my dog. Are you currently offering vaccination service for dogs? Do we need to make an appointment?
Are there people who can help with trap and release ? I have a friend who would like to get some feral cats fixed but is having trouble catching them. Can she get extra cages ? Can they be fixed, now ?
Hi, When will you start having vaccinations available for dogs again? I know with new covid restrictions, its been tough to resume back to normal but do you happen to have a time frame on when to expect opening back up for medical services again?
Do you plan to reopen in-person adoption appointments once Santa Clara County moves into the red or orange tier?
Do we have any idea when the “feral fix” might re-open? With all of the programs in the county shut down, we’ve had an increase in intact cats … and, correspondingly, kittens. I have two pregnant queens in the colony right now. 🙁
Hi,
When will doggie day out reopen? Will we have to show our vaccination cards in order to participate? We are vaccinated and really would like to partake on the doggie day out program as we are waiting to move into a house and cannot board any pets in our apartment at this time.
